PH1L's Book Review published by BOOKWORM, The Liverpool Echo, 7th November 2006. Phil The Fire Engine: The Barn Fire by Dave Fanning (£4.20) Trafford Publishing
It's like a trip back to yesteryear with this delightful and charming book by former Mersey fireman Dave Fanning. Phil is the 'big, bright red' fire engine at Mossy Moor, with black shiny tyres and two blue flashing lights. We meet him as we follow his adventures of putting out fires and giggle with him as Roger, Robin and Robert tickle him with their soft burshes as he gets washed and polished ready for service.
Quaint as it is, however, it's a story with a serious side, as PH1L likes nothing better than to visit Mossy Moor School where he tells youngsters not to play with matches, not to make false alarm calls and to be careful in the kitchen near hot pans.
It's a message more likely to get through when children are being entertained.
Well Done Dave - roll on the next exciting instalment.
